Adjusting the Leaderboard

Out of curiosity, I whipped up a script to grab the team scores from the Rails Rumble leaderboard and “adjust” them based on the size of the team.

I used a pretty simple formula:

adjusted_score = raw_score / Math.sqrt(team_size + 2)

Which results in a distribution like so:

The lines, from top to bottom, represent teams of 1, 2, 3 and 4 members.  The X axis is the raw score from the voters and the Y axis is the adjusted score.

For example, a solo team with a 3.0 score beats a 4 person team with a 4.0, and a 2 person team with a 3.0 score will beat a 3 person team with a 3.5, and so on…
